Dr. Lemma Degefa

Dr. Lemma Degefa has 36 years of successful professional experience in the field of Management, Leadership, Country Strategy Plan and Development, Project Planning and Management, Coaching and Training. He has 24 years of International Employment abroad as the Lutheran World Federation Executive Officer in Zambia and Malawi, and Regional Program Coordinator for East and Central Africa based in Geneva, Switzerland. The international exposure has enabled Dr. Lemma to understand, as well as, contribute to the social and economic development of African Communities. He returned home in 2008 and worked as a Management and Development Consultant (MDC). He is the first Ethiopian Country Director, in Ethiopia, for the same organization – LWF, from January 2009-July 2013. His exemplary work among the refugees earned him a nomination, by UNHCR, for International Award (Nancy Award) in 2012.

He began his career as a field officer (Project Coordinator) in Ethiopia, and moved his way up to International Leadership positions over the years. During his years of work in various African countries he was very successful in implementing community development as well as organizational development through effective management and leadership.

Apart from being development practitioner, Dr. Lemma is a well-recognized human resource development Trainer, Mentor and Coach. He conducted workshops for Executives and Middle Managers on Leadership, Organizational Development (OD), Team-building, Project Cycle Management, Conflict Management, Time Management and Emotional Intelligence, in Geneva, South Africa, East Africa(Uganda and Rwanda), Asia (Cambodia) and Ethiopia. Dr. Lemma was a guest lecturer at the International Leadership Institute (ILI), and Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology (EGST) - Masters Class, in both Institutions of Higher Learning.

Dr. Lemma earned his PH.D in Management and Leadership, MA in Development Management (both with Great Distinction) and BA Degree in Public Administration. His notable qualities include: positive mind-set, creativity and quality assurance. He is passionate about personal and leadership developments, as well as, community change. He is a goal-setter and achiever. He has a proven record of providing leadership, accompaniment and facilitation to, both, National and International Organizations. He has effective negotiation and diplomatic skills, especially, when it comes to getting partners’ and stakeholders’ cooperation and collaboration. He has a good sense of judgment and high level of discretion and courtesy.
